Welcome! This website is owned by Thurman "Ray" Plumlee aka The Web Helper or The Traveling Webmaster. I retired from the U. S. Navy in 1994 where I had served as a submarine maintenance officer. I retired as a Lieutenant Commander having served 13 years as an enlisted man then my final 16 years as an officer. Since my retirement (well since 1996) I have been running this website providing web development resources and services for Mom and Pop small businesses.
Additionally, since 2003 I have become a road warrior. Meaning I have become a full time traveler armed with 3 laptop computers, 3 cell phones with one for my Toll Free number. And no online business would be complete without access to the internet where I have 2 EVDO broadband access cards, 1 from Verizon and 1 from Sprint.

In the early years I provided basic website design services then late in the nineties I began to phase out doing only web design and began to provide web hosting services which led me to lease several web servers. During this period I began teaching myself how to program with php and to access and manipulate mysql databases.
Today I still provide basic web design services, but only on a case by case basis I do continue to provide web hosting services but In addition to those services I now have several years of php and mysql database programming which has led me into a different direction. In addition to providing consulting resources for mom and pop small business entrepreneurs I offer myself as a freelance php and mysql database programmer for custom solutions for those who need web applications to do specific functions and these applications are not available elsewhere.
I have found that most serious internet entrepreneur's are not satisfied soon after they have installed an off the shelf application and want to start having it "tweaked" to fit their real needs. Ultimately they end up paying more getting, a so so application hacked around, to work the way they really wanted it to, to begin with, than it would have cost to have a brand new application built from the ground up. In the end the program works better, just the way they wanted it, and the programming is not all hacked up, often times by several different programmers. In addition to less cost, the latter process more times than not could have been accomplished much sooer with a lot less headaches by the client than going through the hack and whack process with one or more programmers. From this experience I know resist taking on projects where the client wants me to install shareware or open source web programs.
A quick comment about shareware, open source applications. They can be very good and useful and usually the price is good if not free (excluding installation fees). However, if you are one of those that will not be satisfied with a program that does not run the way you want it to and have all the features you want, then The Web Helper aka The Traveling Webmaster is just the man for you!
On this website I not only provide products or php and mysql programming service but I have articles about starting, running and succeeding with an online small business. I plan to continue adding these services and in fact my plan is to open these articles up for visitors to the site to be able to add comments and or suggestions to the articles.
Speaking of this website, this entire website is managed by my latest product the Multipurpose Website Content Management Program.
