Many online business owners are stuck in a quandary. They work really hard and start selling. Their business is chugging along and yet the number of sales reaches a point of stagnation where there isn't any change in the number or dollar amount. There is a plateau that, once reached, becomes really difficult to get past and grow sales some more. What to do?

Enter affiliate programs. An affiliate is someone that sells for you - like part of your sales staff. Instead, you can look at affiliates as whole websites or networks of websites.

Let's say you are selling ebooks about growing organic fruits and vegetables. You have maxed out at selling 15 ebooks per day on your website and you don't think it would make sense to hire another full-time salesperson to start calling people directly for sales. You are kind of stuck - but really, you are not.

ClickBank is a large affiliate network which puts together those that need affiliates to sell their products and affiliates that have a lot of visitors to their websites that might like to buy those same products.

After you sign up with ClickBank you can list your products to sell in their database within just a few minutes. It will take a little while to get a grip on the whole process, because it's a new way of looking at things. Basically you're giving the affiliates that sign up to sell your products, permission to do so - and you are agreeing to give them a certain percentage (you choose) of each sale they create for you.

The ClickBank system tracks all sales, and even processes payments for you and pays you when a predetermined threshold has been reached (you choose, but there is a minimum payout amount).

Do affiliate programs work? Sometimes. That's the truth, like everything they are not always a goldmine, but, when an affiliate signs up to sell your products that is a strong match - the sales numbers can be ridiculously high. There are affiliates that sell much more than the company itself sells on their own. One or two good affiliates can give you the jump over the hump and ramp up your sales to levels you couldn't have reached yourself.

You should try ClickBank, Commission Junction, E-Junkie, and others to see if you can increase the sales of your products through them. Don't be discouraged by the first group of affiliates that sign up to sell your products and then don't sell many at all. It only takes 1-2 that really crank to make it a success. Give it a year and see what happens. At the least you'll have gained some valuable experience in a new channel that may work later if not at the present.
