As a website owner, you have likely become familiar with the term backlinks. If you are new to the industry, however, or to Internet promotion, you may not understand just what these links are or why they are so important. Today we will take an in-depth look at these links and just how they can help you boost your site to the top- or send it crashing down miserably.

We all want our sites to be the absolute best on the web. We want to be the most popular, the most clicked, and the most used. Backlinks are simply links around the web and on other sites that link readers to your page. For some time, building the largest selection of backlinks was the easiest way to get to the top of search rankings. Spiders would "crawl" the web, looking for links to different sites, and whoever had the most was deemed the winner and given that coveted spot. Because coming out on top in the search engines is the key to success, it is easy to see why backlinks were so popular.

Nowadays, however, when search engine crawlers scan the web for backlinks, they are a bit smarter and more intuitive. When sheer number was all that mattered, it seems that web owners got greedy and put the desire for quality and content right out the window. There were providers buying hundreds of backlinks at a time, and sites that were designed for nothing but a list of links began to crop up. This meant that hundreds of scam sites and irrelevant sites were making it to the top of the rankings. It also meant that search engines had to revamp the system. Today's spiders seek out relevant links, searching for similar phrases and information that actually offers benefit to the reader as well as a link.

This is where article submission backlinks comes in. In today's world, buying links and putting them anywhere you can find is an easy way to get your site shut down and to lose any placement in search engines. On the other hand, hiring article writers to create compelling, interesting, and educational copy that can solve a common problem for readers or help them understand your topic better while placing a link in the body can be a great way to boost search engine rankings.

Whenever you create an article with helpful information and a link to your site and put it in a place where readers can easily find it, you have created a backlink that will actually generate organic traffic. Today's search engines are looking for relevant content that readers are actually clicking on. What this means for you is that producing even ten or twenty well written articles a month will offer higher rankings and more page visits than purchasing a thousand backlinks through any other method. The article marketing game is the face of search engine optimization today. Gone are the days of pointless links or keyword overstuffed content- now, it is all about offering your readers something they can benefit from while linking it back to your website.

Best of all, when compared to other online marketing strategies like PPC, article marketing can give you the best bang for your marketing buck while establishing you as an expert in your field!
