Selecting the right domain name for your web site is the most important step you can take when starting your own online business. Your domain name is your web address and your company brand on the web. Your domain name will be the first indication of what your web site is about, what you have to offer and will help your potential visitors to decide if they are interested in looking further. There are several ways you can select your domain name to bring in your prospective customers. If you are starting your first web site you may feel overwhelmed by the many points that you have to consider.
The first thing you should do is make yourself a list to help you get started. During your planning process you should, at least, include these steps:
You want to write down all the products or services you will be offering.
When you are choosing your domain name you will want to use keywords in your name that are related to the purpose or theme of your web site. When including keywords in your domain name you are letting the name tell anyone what your business is probably about.
Determine what niche or groups your products would benefit the most.
After you determine these factors, choose a name that will combine keywords for both the products or services and the niche or group you are focusing on to create a successful domain name.
When combining these keywords be sure to make your domain name a phrase of no more than four to five words. Anything longer than five words is too cumbersome. But a short phrase can make your domain name easy to remember and understand the web sites purpose.
Before you purchase and start using your name you need to make sure it is unique and not already being used. If the domain name is already taken, you will need to choose an alternative domain name that will describe your business using your keywords.
Once you register your domain name and build your web site you need to convince others to visit your site by domain name marketing. There are and will be other articles and tips posted here that will discuss marketing your domain name and web site.
