Craig's list is spread across North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa; and small businesses across these continents can use its services.

Craig's list, is a site that you can access irrespective of where you are. All you have to do is to post an on line advertisement to advertise your product or service, and the advertisement can be viewed by internet users not just in your city but also around the world, as you can post your advertisement in as many cities as you want.

Before posting your advertisement, it would help if you could take some time and go through other advertisements that offer similar services and products and see why you think some advertisements are better than the others. When it comes to advertisements for small businesses, people like to see descriptive advertisements which have the business' contact information besides other relevant information. Giving out information pertaining to the business' tenure in the market also adds to the authenticity of the advertisement. If your business has a website, make sure you include that in your Craig's list advertisement as well. Advertisements that do not carry contact information and product/service related information are often overlooked by the average user.

In using Craig's list, you should ensure posting your advertisements in the relevant places. There are numerous sections which you can choose from so choose the most relevant one to place your advertisements. Categories include ‘jobs', ‘for sale', ‘housing', ‘services', ‘gigs', etc. Also, ensure that yours advertisements are detailed and concise. For example, advertisements that offer services should ideally be placed in the ‘services' section, and this is the most commonly used section by small businesses. If you intend to hire new staff for your small business, you could post an advertisement in the ‘jobs' section.

Besides being able to place free advertisements on Craig's list to offer your services or products, you can also use the site to look for products and/or services that your small business might need. Craig's list is a good source to look for cheap and discounted office needs, and you can scout through the numerous advertisements to get yourself a good deal.

A growing business can also use Craig's list's virtual employees to keep up with the growing retail experience. With the number of people that visit Craig's list everyday, it is not surprising that advertisements start getting viewed almost as soon as they are placed. According to data collected by Craig's list, the site has more than 12 billion views of its pages every month, with users exceeding the 50 million mark every month, wherein classifieds in excess of 30 million are added each month.
