Web 2.0 is a very broad term in the world of computers. However, we can briefly term it as a "Platform" for different fields. For example, for journalists and media people, the web serves as a platform for novel and unique media; for the corporate people, it acts as a business platform; for the average person the social gathering web sites are a place to meet, whereas for the Geeks it offers a platform for the software development. And more and more a new platform called Twitter which is used across all the above fields. Web 2.0 simply means that one can use the web the way one wants for his own personal use or for business to gain profits.

The technologies of Web 2.0 are allowing us to carry different operations that we have been only imagining a few years back. Now with the help of Web 2.0, it is possible to connect easily, build more, sell more, have more fun and share more than before. And at the same time, do all these tasks at a faster rate. But, again as new web technologies are continuously coming online, splitting useful data from noise and genuine from the fuzz is becoming increasingly challenging.

Web 2.0 Applications:

The Web 2.0 technology is very useful and beneficial to the marketers, developers, designers, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, business strategists, and many more. It is particularly of great help to the next generation web builders. Web 2.0 refers basically to the 2nd generation of the web. Where technologies such as AJAX, API, blogs and social networking generally form the core of the Web 2.0.

Web 2.0 is a presentation point on the web where web services allow users to subscribe to XML-based content. XML a recent standard where data can be shared between web sites. The standard ensures that this data is available in an easy to use standard format. It is an infrastructure that is open to all. It is considered a distributed service where having the URL and an API (Application Program Interface) that calls up those services from a remote web server. It has now become a vigorous platform allowing web site owners to share content on devices and media that includes television, telephones, mobile phones and various searches. Thus, the internet is made extremely useful for computers through the Web 2.0 technology.

Benefits of Web 2.0 Program:

Web 2.0 is a far-reaching program especially beneficial to marketers, entrepreneurs and web designers. The varied companies and the projects based on the web ecosystem can be correlated through the Web 2.0. These novel applications of Web 2.0 may ultimately alter the way you think and work through your use of the internet.

Distinct Characteristics of the Web 2.0 Program:

You can perform more than only recovering information, from the Web 2.0 websites. Your data can be personalized on the Web 2.0 websites and thus you are allowed to make changes and have control on that specific set of data. The Web 2.0 sites have a very rich user-friendly interface based on Ajax, Flex or any other web technologies. Examples of Web 2.0 social tools are, Twittering, Gmail, Google Maps, Flickr, MySpace, Facebook and Technorati.

MySpace, Squidoo and Facebook are Examples of Web 2.0 social websites:

These are the places where one can meet and socialize with other people, share ideas and interests with one another. This is the excellent way to socialize with people throughout the world. Their Web 2.0 applications provide you with a number of useful features allowing you to freely exchange information with others.

To Twitter or not to Twitter

I want to draw your attention to a recent platform called Twitter. This new Web 2.0 program allows individuals to broadcast short little messages on a constant basis. It has spawned a whole new fad where people can follow other peoples doings. This following someone else is called Twittering. It is becoming so popular that Company CEO's, for example, are keeping their employees updated minute by minute during conferences and important meetings. This system is a form of micro-blogging that is being adapted by the very young and the not so young.
