I recently got myself an Amazon Kindle Digital Book Reader. I was so impressed with this device that I wrote a review of it.
Not actually a part of my review, but just as pertinent is the observation I made while reading the Blog Springwise in my Amazon Kindle this morning, I read an article discussing Open Source Textbook Publishing. What I found interesting about that is that the traditional publishers have had such a monopoly on the publication and distribution of school textbooks. In the case of University students their costs for textbooks can be as much as $1,000 per school year.
Enter Open Source Textbooks. These books are digital and the cost for them will be less than half the cost of traditional textbooks. Now, as I point out in my review, the Amazon Kindle is so easy to use and small enough to carry almost anywhere that It will make it easier to access and read no matter where you are. Such as standing in line at the bank, waiting for a movie or a bus.
Additionally, in the case of the Amazon Kindle you can copy clips from the books which will be really handy when trying to make a quotation of a passage in a book. Now you can just copy and paste, rather than have to type the entire passage in to your word processor program by hand.
While, I'm introducing my review of the Amazon Kindle I might as well give you my opinion about the traditional print news media and magazine periodicals. The Amazon Kindle, or a similar device, may very well spell the end of the traditional print media. Maybe not the actual death knell but a change that will be as historic as the traditional print media goes the way of the Dodo Bird.
Anyway, Take a look at my review of Amazons New Digital Book Reader, The Kindle.
